Contemporary Art Quarterly
February 1st, 2012 in Announcements
We’re excited to announce our next major project, Contemporary Art Quarterly.
Contemporary Art Quarterly will release four archives for four artists, four times per year. Each archive will be a collection of primary source material relating to a single artist: documentation of solo and collaborative exhibitions, interviews and artist writings, works exhibited in group shows, curatorial projects, performances, and anything else that constitutes a part of the artist’s public activity. Our aim is to be as comprehensive as possible once we’ve selected an artist, acquiring material from as much of her history as possible. This material will be presented in a variety of forms, for example as a chronology, shuffled into a random sequence, or laid out in pages as a document. Each grouping of 4 artists will be selected in relation to each other, and their archives will be released simultaneously.
We think Contemporary Art Quarterly will be an apt balance against Contemporary Art Daily. Where CAD is broad and quick, CAQ will be deep and slow. Our hope is that it will provide the opportunity for an unprecedented level of context for viewers of the selected artists’ shows, allowing them to understand each work and presentation as part of a much larger expression. As an organization, this project affords us the opportunity to focus our research on a narrower set of artists, and to take more distilled curatorial positions than our work on Contemporary Art Daily. Further, it allows us to continue to make previously unavailable resources accessible to the public.
Contemporary Art Quarterly is the first new project announced by Contemporary Art Group, the newly formed organization that produces Contemporary Art Daily and Contemporary Art Venues. For more information about the new organization, see here.

Will there be an email notification, RSS, etc for this information? Will be be notified through CAD?
We haven’t decided if there will be an RSS feed for Contemporary Art Quarterly, but we will certainly announce new projects here on Office Notebook and on Contemporary Art Daily. In general, Office Notebook will be our main outlet for news about all of the projects, so I’d suggest signing up for this RSS feed.
